Heritage Open Day: Come and see Marple's Hidden Gem, an outstanding example of an arts and crafts church where no expense was spared in 1870 in its construction and design. Designs by William Morris, Ford Madox Brown, Dante Gabriel Rossette and Edward Burne-Jones. An outstanding opportunity to view 'Marple's hidden gem'. St Martin's Church, Marple, was built in 1870 at the time of the Arts and Crafts movement and the Pre-Raphaelite Artists, shown in the design, construction and furnishings. With examples of stained glass designed by William Morris, Ford Maddox Brown and Edward Burne Jones. The main building is designed by John Dando Sedding with other works by Henry Wilson. The organ is a fine example by Henry (Father) Willis and will be played throughout both days.
