Heritage Open Day: This building was built and opened in 1910, and was formerly the offices of Cottingham Urban District Council. Cottingham Local History Society has its History Room here just inside the main door. It has pictures and exhibits donated by residents, the digital archive, which you can view, and displays which include Cottingham’s former ‘gentry’ houses and a history of the Market Green. There will also be an exhibition.
To the right of the entrance door was an office and the Cottingham Fire Station, which is now the Public Toilets run by the Cottingham Village Trust. To the left was the Surveyor’s (the administrator of the Council) home and his rent office with a special small, narrow window for people to pay their rent.
