Heritage Open Day: Thwaite Gardens comprises 2.25 acres of botanic gardens. It is owned by the University of Hull, managed by volunteers and is the only part of the Thwaite Hall Estate that is still open to the public. This year is the 25th Anniversary of the Friends of Thwaite Gardens. From small beginnings the volunteer gardeners are now a group of 29. The volunteers come to the gardens once or twice a week. They have both maintained and also extended the interesting and varied planting.
There are various specialised areas e.g. Winter borders, Prairie planting, Mediterranean, Australian and New Zealand themed beds as well as greenhouses with exotic and desert plant displays.
