Inspired by true events, this is the story of a group of Cistercian monks living in the remote mountains of North Africa in the 1990s.
Fear sweeps the region when a group of foreign workers is killed by Islamic fundamentalists, and the brothers are faced with leaving their monastery or staying to support the community which depends on them.
They decide to stay.
This award-winning film has been acclaimed as a masterpiece, and won the Grand Prix at Cannes. It was also BAFTA nominated for best foreign film. It won excellent reviews in The Guardian, Empire, The Financial Times, the Times and The Independent.
The film stars Lambert Wilson, Michael Lonsdale, Oliver Rabourdin, Philippe Laudenbach, Jacques Herlin, Loic Pichon, Xavier Maly, Jean-Marie Frin and Olivier Perrier .
