Heritage Open Day: The Church of St Mary Magdalene is an Anglican church in the hamlet of Whitgift, located by the River Ouse. The church is noted for its clock which displays the number 13 in Roman numerals in what should be the 12 o'clock position! St. Mary Magdalene church, Whitgift, lies in an area next to the River Ouse known as the Marshlands famous for being part of the extensive drainage programme carried out by Charles I and Cornelius Vermuyden in the seventeenth century. This church replaced one that was built in 1130 which was destroyed by the Rector of nearby Adlingfleet. It was built in the 1300s with support from Selby Abbey and the Earl of Lincoln.
